Medco reports strong Q1

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. Total revenues, revenues from specialty pharmacy, mail-order prescriptions and generic dispensing at Medco Health Solutions all increased in first quarter 2010, the pharmacy benefit manager said.

Medco reported total revenues of $16.3 billion, a 10% increase over first quarter 2009. Meanwhile, revenues at the PBM’s specialty division, Accredo Health Group, were $2.7 billion, a 17.1% increase. Mail-order prescriptions and total prescriptions both increased by 5.8%, to 27.2 million and 239.2 million, respectively. Of those, 69.7% were generics, 2.9% higher than in first quarter 2009.

“Building on the record sales pace we’ve achieved over the past three years, Medco’s clinically driven programs continue to offer compelling value that wins in the marketplace,” Medco chairman and CEO David Snow said.
