NACDS, Anderson receive accolades from association newspaper

4/15/2008

ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores president and chief executive officer Steve Anderson was recently recognized by the newspaper Association TRENDS as one of its “Effective Association Lobbyists.”

Association TRENDS wrote of the designees, “They trudge to the capital to pound on the doors of legislators who can help their causes. They fight for their industries, but perform their missions with dignity. They know how the game is played, and they play to win, but do so ethically, which enhances the reputation of the overall association community.”

Association TRENDS noted NACDS’ recent victory with the National Community Pharmacists Association in winning a temporary injunction against the Medicaid pharmacy reimbursement rule, which threatens to reimburse pharmacies below cost for generic drugs. The newspaper also cited NACDS’ recent victories that preserved the ability for military families and veterans to obtain prescriptions and pharmacy services at retail pharmacies, and that delayed for six months the new tamper-resistant paper requirement for Medicaid prescriptions to allow for smoother implementation in the best interest of patients.

“Any recognition that NACDS receives for its effectiveness is through the knowledge and insights of our board of directors, councils and committees, who shape our policy; the members who engage in grassroots advocacy; and the dedicated staff whose expertise, credibility and tenacity are second to none,” said Anderson.
