NACDS joins healthcare leaders to co-sponsor e-prescribing event

9/18/2008

ALEXANDRIA, Va. The federal government will host a new conference next month focusing on the progress and uses of electronic prescribing, and the event’s co-sponsors will include the National Association of Chain Drug Stores.

NACDS said today it has joined other industry groups to co-sponsor the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ National E-prescribing Conference, set for Oct. 6-7 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel in Boston.

The conference includes two days of informational sessions led by industry experts. Among the topics under review: how e-prescribing and other e-health initiatives can be utilized to increase patient compliance and improve health outcomes, educating healthcare professionals on how to integrate e-prescribing into their business model, and distributing information about implementing paperless prescribing.

NACDS president and chief executive officer Steve Anderson said the chain pharmacy group’s participation in the CMS event is based on its longstanding support for e-prescribing and health information technology. “During a period when the nation’s political landscape is changing and healthcare is at the top of the political debate, it is important that we advocate for positive healthcare reform. E-prescribing is an important part of the improvements needed within the current system,” said Anderson. “NACDS is excited to co-sponsor this event, which will hopefully bring e-prescribing one step closer to becoming a healthcare industry norm.”
