NACDS' policy recommendations for medication adherence featured in journal

3/5/2010

ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ campaign to raise awareness of pharmacy’s role in boosting medication adherence and related causes was featured in the March 3 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The article highlights policy recommendations unveiled by NACDS and other entities in the fall of 2009, NACDS said. The article was published at the heels of newly-released research by RAND Corp. and Avalere Health on medication adherence.

Reacting to the JAMA article, NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson, said, “To help improve the lives of patients and to help reduce healthcare costs, NACDS is committed to raising awareness of the importance of medication adherence, and of pharmacy’s role in improving it. This article in JAMA is strategically important to the highlighting of this issue among policymakers, healthcare providers, opinion leaders, the media and patients themselves.”
