NACDS promotes value of pharmacy with position paper
ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores released Wednesday a position paper that emphasizes community pharmacy’s healthcare positions and priorities, including pharmacy’s focus on improving medication adherence.
“The Face of Neighborhood Healthcare: The Role of Pharmacy in a Reformed Healthcare System” emphasizes that community pharmacists, as accessible, knowledgeable and trust-worthy medication experts, have the education and experience to work with their patients on a one-to-one basis to improve medication adherence through pharmacist-patient counseling, medication therapy management and other patient-centric services.
The paper was released in conjunction with the White House Summit on Healthcare Reform.
“As leaders from both parties meet at the White House to discuss healthcare reform, it is an opportune time for pharmacy to once again stress its priorities and positions, which hold bipartisan support,” said NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson. “There is broad support for improving lives through prevention and chronic disease management and for reducing overall healthcare costs, and that is what happens when community pharmacies help patients take the right medications in the right ways.”
