NCPA offering member pharmacies a discount on screening of new employees

9/9/2008

ALEXANDRIA, Va. Members of the National Community Pharmacists Association hiring new employees can get a benefit from the organization, NCPA announced Tuesday.

NCPA is collaborating with investigative consultancy Pedersen & Associates to offer discounts on employee screenings for member pharmacies.

According to industry statistics, nearly one-in-10 background verifications reveal something bad about job candidates. According to a survey by the National Retail Federation last year, most retail loss results from employee theft. At the same time, however, the Small Business Administration says every dollar that an employer invests in employment screening yields a return on investment of $5 to $16 in improved productivity, reduced absenteeism, lower turnover and decreased liability.

“Beyond the hundreds of bottles lining the shelves, the very heart of a pharmacy is its staff,” said NCPA executive vice president and chief executive officer Bruce Roberts. “Now more than ever, as pharmacy crime increases, including internal theft, our members must hire trustworthy people.”
