New nonprofit clinic aids uninsured workers, families

SAN ANTONIO A low-cost, nonprofit clinic located here recently celebrated its grand opening and is targeting uninsured working people and their families.

According to local news reports, the Faith Family Clinic held its grand opening at the end of January but has been quietly seeing patients since November.

Serving as the executive director to lead in the development and operation of the clinic is Jim Young. He has served as senior pastor of several congregations across Texas as well as with the Chaplaincy Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Most recently, he served with Baptist Child and Family Services of San Antonio.

Those patients who quality pay between $10 and $50 a visit, depending on income and family size. Services include preventative care and early intervention; management of chronic health conditions like diabetes and hypertension; school and athletic physicals; prescription assistance programs; screening and treatment for anemia, lead poisoning and STDs; spiritual support; and referrals for specialty care.

The clinic's staff includes a nurse practitioner, physician assistant and administrator. In addition, it relies on a network of volunteer doctors who see patients.
