Pharmacy students at University of Rhode Island to perform community service

KINGSTON, R.I. The University of Rhode Island’s pharmacy program is requiring students to do community service, according to published reports.

A student newspaper at the university reported that third-year students in the pharmacy school must take a one-credit class called “healthcare service learning experience,” working in a healthcare-related setting such as an assisted-living center or free clinic.

The program began two years ago, and students are required to complete between 20 and 50 service hours, usually in one semester, just before being accepted into the College of Pharmacy, according to the article.
