Publix pharmacist wins June Fit Pharmacist Challenge

7/30/2015

NEW YORK — Drug Store News, in partnership with consumer health engagement company higi, has announced that Marlena Kelley, pharmacy manager at Publix’s Daphne, Ala., location, is the grand prize winner of its June 2015 Fit Pharmacist Challenge, sponsored by Splenda.

“As a pharmacist, it is important to stay active. Being active helps keep up with our sometimes stressful, long schedules while on our feet throughout the day,” Kelley said. “We can also serve as good role models for our patients. I am currently training for a half marathon and try to stay active 3 to 5 times a week.”

Kelley, who logged over 50 miles in June to qualify, will receive a $500 American Express gift card.

Runners up included Crystal Lennartz, director of clinical development at Health Mart; Michael Kazzaz, a pharmacist at Rite Aid; and Kam Nola, associate professor and vice chair of pharmacy practice at Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy. Each runner up logged at least 10 miles in June and will receive a $100 American Express gift card.

The next Fit Pharmacist Challenge is slated for October, with registration opening in mid-September.
