Report: Flu shot clinics arrive in local airports

2/5/2010

FORT WAYNE, Ind. Flu shot clinics have landed in baggage claim at airports across Indiana, according to local reports.

In an effort headed by the Indiana State Department of Health, has staged clinic sites, which offer season flu and H1N1 vaccinations, at Indianapolis International and Evansville Regional airports this week. Additionally, residents and visitors also may receive free doses of the H1N1 vaccine at Fort Wayne International Airport.

The Hoosier State has expanded its inoculation efforts because it wants both residents and visitors not to ignore the pandemic, despite reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that flu and H1N1 incidence rates have dropped. In Indiana, 38 people died as a result of the H1N1 virus since June.

"We understand people may not see the flu as a particular risk," said Jennifer Dunlap, the state department of health's spokeswoman. "We still want to remind people that H1N1 is here to stay."
