Report: Jeff Berkowitz departs Walgreens Boots Alliance
CHICAGO — Jeff Berkowitz, EVP and president of pharma and global market access for Walgreens Boots Alliance, has left the company, according to an internal memo, The Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.
The company restructured Berkowitz's group to create “a lean simplified structure,” Stefano Pessina, Walgreens CEO, noted in the memo dated Tuesday. As a result, Berkowitz decided to pursue opportunities outside the company, the memo said.
Jeffrey Berkowitz joined Walgreens in 2010 from an SVP role at Merck to serve as Walgreens' SVP pharmaceutical development and market access, responsible for the overall pharmacy contracting strategy for the company, both on the pharmaceutical manufacturing side and on the retail payer side.
With the closing of the Walgreens Boots Alliance deal, Berkowitz was named EVP of Walgreens Boots Alliance and president of pharma and global market access, which included responsibility for specialty pharmacy.
Prior to joining Walgreens, Berkowitz served as SVP global market access at Merck, part of the Merck global human health leadership team, responsible for all activity related to access, pricing, payer marketing, health outcomes and health technology assessments worldwide.
