VOA Associates design Walgreens Health System Pharmacy at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Galter Pavilion

CHICAGO — VOA Associates on Monday announced the opening of a new Walgreens Health System Pharmacy at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Galter Pavilion here. The drug store features an innovative biophilic design, which creates a unique retail environment in a healthcare setting.

 

The “natural world” inspires the design concept for the new Walgreens pharmacy at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

 

The Walgreens Health System Pharmacy is designed to be an "oasis" within the neighborhood and the hospital. The two-story location features retail on the ground floor and the pharmacy above. On the retail level, a restorative shopping experience was created to be a “walk through the park,” featuring architectural tree elements. The pharmacy extends the biophilic design concept using architectural clouds in the sky over the park, a clean modern aesthetic and the incorporation of modern technology.

 

The store features a two-story glass exterior, providing views from west to east; from the hospital’s two-story gallery through the store to the exterior of the Galter building, allowing views of the outdoors and exposure to natural light. The entire store can be viewed from the hospital’s two-story gallery.
