The Private Label Manufacturers Association has canceled its Private Label Trade Show.

Scheduled to take place from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, 2022, the show will no longer be taking place due to the debilitating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on business travel, the company said.

“This action was taken for a number of reasons, all related to the impact of COVID-19 on the safe movement of exhibitors and visitors who annually attend our Chicago show,” PLMA president Peggy Davies said.

In addition, Davies also shared that the organization has plans for three major trade shows for retailers and store brand manufacturers in 2022, including —PLMA Global, a digital event set for March. 28 to 31; the World of Private Label show in Amsterdam taking place May 31 to June 1; and the traditional fall Chicago show taking place Nov. 13 to 15.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, including the outbreak of the Omnicrom variant, which has exacerbated the situation overseas and resulted in tougher restrictions on international travel, passage to the Chicago trade show has become more difficult. This led the organization to decide to cancel the show, the company noted.

“Because of the surge in cases nationwide, we are seeing an extension into 2022 of corporate travel limitations, if not new outright bans,” Davies said. “With the onset of colder weather and more indoor gatherings, an uptick in cases in the U.S. was predicted by most experts, but its extent has been greater than anticipated.”
