CVS Health brings Project Health to Sacramento

5/3/2019
CVS Health is expanding the reach of its free health screenings, Project Health. The company on Thursday held the first of 32 health screenings set to take place between now and June 30 at CVS Pharmacy stores in Sacramento, Calif.

At the event, the company also presented the Sacramento Native American Health Center with a $75,000 grant to help fund the expansion of local opioid addiction treatment, including medication-assisted treatment and cognitive behavioral therapy, among others.

"CVS Health is committed to expanding access to quality and affordable care, both through our retail footprint and with national and local non-profits and organizations who share our belief that better health starts at the community level," said Garth Graham, CVS Health vice president of community health and impact. "We are thrilled to be here today in Sacramento celebrating the expansion of Project Health, and look forward to providing local residents with free health screenings over the next two months, as part of our commitment to building healthier communities."

Project Health events will take place at rotating stores in Sacramento, and are open to walk-in patients. Health screenings offered include blood pressure, body mass index, glucose and total cholesterol screenings, which can help detect such conditions as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. After the screenings, patients have access to on-site consultations with bilingual nurse practitioners or physician assistants, who can analyze and refer patients for necessary follow-ups.

CVS Health said Sacramento is one of five California cities that will host a total of 256 Project Health screenings through December, including Los Angeles, Fresno, San Francisco and San Diego.
