Four dead after shooting at Rite Aid DC
A shooting at a Rite Aid distribution center in Aberdeen, Md., Thursday left four people dead, including the shooter, according to the Harford, Md., County Sherriff’s Department. The shooter, a woman who Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said was a temporary employee at the facility, died due to self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Three others were injured in the shooting.
"We are deeply saddened by the events that transpired this morning at the Liberty support facility, which is part of Rite Aid’s Perryman Distribution Center in Aberdeen, Md.,” the retailer said in a statement. “The facility has been closed, and we are assessing when it will be reopened. Grief counselors will be made available to our associates and will remain available as long as they are needed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved in this tragic incident, as well as their loved ones,” the retailer said in a statement.
Gahler said that the names of victims and the suspect were not being made immediately available as family notifications were ongoing. He noted that there was not a clear motive for the shooting as of Thursday afternoon.
Also at the press conference, Harford County executive Barry Glassman said that the county would be working with Rite Aid as it prepares to reopen the facility. The Baltimore Sun reported that a Harford County spokeswoman said Rite Aid’s facility employs 1,300 full-time employees and 300 temporary workers.
