Meijer has made a major announcement regarding its Simply Give program.
The retailer unveiled that the program has now surpassed $50 million in donations.
During its spring campaign, which also happened to coincide with the retailer’s sixth annual LPGA Classic for the program, more than $2.5 million was generated for its food pantry partners across the Midwest, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company said.
"We are committed to helping end food insecurity in the Midwest and are thankful for the continued support from our generous customers and team members," Cathy Cooper, the senior director of community partnerships and giving, said. "We are pleased that participation in the Simply Give program continues to grow because it makes a big difference in the communities we serve."
Simply Give began in 2008 as a way to help local food pantries fulfill their mission of feeding families, and has since then been able to provide more than 500 meals, the company said.
During each of the program’s campaigns, which run three times a year, customers are encouraged to purchase a $10 donation card upon checkout. Once purchased, the donation is converted into a Meijer Food-Only Gift Card and donated to the local food pantry that has been selected by the store for that campaign, the company said.
