Three months out, the stage is set for this year’s National Association of Chain Drug Stores Total Store Expo. This year’s event, which is set to take place Aug. 25-27 in Denver with the theme “Leading Health and Wellness. NACDS TSE is almost 90% sold out, according to past NACDS chairman and Walgreens Boots Alliance co-COO Alex Gourlay.

Ahead of NACDS TSE, the organization’s leadership has highlighted its ability to drive collaboration between retailers and suppliers across categories.

“NACDS is doing a lot to bring retailers and suppliers together to really tackle the issues of today and tomorrow,” said Mark Panzer, the newly minted NACDS chairman and Albertsons senior vice president of pharmacy, health and wellness. “NACDS has fantastic senior-level engagement from drug, food and mass — national and regional players alike. Among our associate members, we have that same senior-level engagement, and tremendous diversity across all products and services.”

NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson has said that NACDS TSE arose out of the organization’s work to identify so-called “hard trends” within the industry that are almost certain to happen. NACDS TSE was the result of the NACDS board knowing “change was needed to deliver value and to connect dynamics across the entire store,” Anderson said.

“NACDS is about chains and suppliers collaborating, to benefit the consumer, the nation, and the business,” Anderson said. “That is the infinite goal of NACDS. And doing that through the years requires an intentional, determined, and spirited transformation.”

Panzer said the event is a way for retailers and suppliers to work together on ways to improve the profitability as retailers focus on areas of the store outside the pharmacy.

"There are tremendous opportunities to be had by sharpening our focus on the health, wellness, and beauty areas within the store," Panzer said. "There is so much opportunity for retailers and supplier partners to work together to drive profitable sales and successful partnerships.”
