Publix donates $3M to fund Habitat for Humanity affiliates
Publix’s Super Market Charities, or PSMC, announced that it would be donating $3 million to fund more than 215 Habitat for Humanity affiliates, shelters and other nonprofits across the Southeast.
“We are committed to the well-being of our communities,” president of Publix Super Markets Charities, Carol Jenkins Barnett, said. “Our foundation is continuing my father’s legacy of supporting the communities Publix serves and providing hope to those in need.”
The donation serves as part of the Lakeland, Fla.-based retailer’s commitment to help meet the basic needs of the various communities it serves through such services as transitional support, client service programs and financial support for housing, the company said.
PSMC began supporting Habitat for Humanity in 1989, with a contribution to the organization’s East Polk County affiliate in Winter Haven, Fla. The foundation has continued to support the organization and its affiliates, and other nonprofits that serve the hungry and homeless, the company said.
“Habitat for Humanity is very lucky to partner with Publix Super Markets Charities to build homes for families in need,” Julie Farish, executive director at Habitat for Humanity of East Polk County, said. “We value the support provided to us for nearly three decades. With their donations, we’ve been able to assist families in our community.”
