Rite Aid Foundation awards $2M to KidCents Charities

1/22/2019
The Rite Aid Foundation is kicking off its KidCents program for 2019, offering grants to nonprofits that advance the health and well-being of children.

A total of 416 charities will receive a $5,000 KidCents grant, totaling more than $2 million.

"The Rite Aid Foundation is committed to making a meaningful and lasting difference in the communities we serve. Improving the health and well-being of children is a critical component of that commitment," said Tracy Henderson, director of the Rite Aid Foundation and charitable giving initiatives. "From empowering young girls to succeed to providing a safe place for children to stay, this year's charities provide valuable services in their communities. We are proud to provide them with additional funding to make an even greater impact on the children they serve."

The 2019 class includes 145 charities that are participating in the KidCents program for the first time.

The selected charities' programs encompass a wide variety of projects that advance children's health and well-being, promote academic growth and support a safe environment to live and grow. Some of those programs include:

  • Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center in Augusta, Mich.: This nonprofit uses equine-assisted activities, therapies and education to enhance the lives of individuals living with special needs;

  • Girls on the Run of Greater Susquehanna Valley in Williamsport, Pa.: This nonprofit inspires young girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through research-based curricula, which include dynamic discussions, activities and running games; and

  • Hannah's House in San Diego: This nonprofit and family center provides a safe place for children in the middle of custody disputes, allowing them to come together with their parents in a supportive and protective environment.

This year's charities were selected in partnership with Rite Aid associates who live and work in communities served by Rite Aid, with a goal to positively impact the children living in those communities. In addition to a one-time $5,000 KidCents grant, each charity also will have access to a variety of funding opportunities throughout 2019.

Through the KidCents program, members of Rite Aid's loyalty program, wellness+ rewards, can round up their in-store or online purchases to the nearest dollar and donate their change to KidCents.
