Supervalu’s Farm Fresh store sales mostly done
Supervalu has shed most of its Farm Fresh store portfolio.
The company said it has completed the previously announced sales of 21 of its 38 Farm Fresh stores to three different retailers: Harris Teeter, Kroger Mid-Atlantic Division, and Food Lion. The company is continuing to pursue the sale of several remaining the chain's stores to current and prospective wholesale customers.
In March, Supervalu announced plans to sell its Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy banner. The move reflects the company’s shift in emphasis from its retail to the wholesale business.
“Every day we’re working to continue the rapid transformation of our business, and the exit from our Farm Fresh banner is another step forward in becoming the grocery supplier of choice for retailers across the country,” said Supervalu president and CEO Mark Gross.
The company serves customers across the United States through a network of 3,437 stores composed of 3,323 wholesale primary stores operated by customers serviced by the company’s food distribution business and 114 traditional retail grocery stores operated under three retail banners (store counts as of February 24, 2018).
