Sam’s Club expands curbside pickup nationwide

Sam’s Club is taking its curbside pickup offering nationwide. The Bentonville, Ark.-based club retail division of Walmart will offer the service at all of its 597 stores by the end of June.

Sam’s Club curbside pickup offers shoppers a way to order online and have their products delivered to their car for contact-free shopping. The service will be free for Plus-level members, who also have access to early shopping hours, free shipping on most online items.

The retailer had been piloting curbside pickup at 15 clubs with positive results from users, so it decided to expedite the nationwide rollout to meet consumer preferences and demand for more convenient shopping options.

“Sam’s Club members have been integrating technology into their shopping habits for a while with Scan & Go, samsclub.com and in-club pickup,” said Lance de la Rosa, Sam’s Club COO. “As we continue to innovate to make the shopping experience better and faster for our members, we’re proud to be able to quickly implement and offer curbside pickup across the country, particularly during a time when they are searching for alternative ways to shop.”

Using samsclub.com, shoppers looking to place a curbside pickup order can make a shopping list, select a pickup time (including same-day pick up) and then checkout. Once they arrive at their local club, they pull into a designated pickup spot and a Sam’s Club associate loads the products into the customer’s car.

Sam’s Club said non-Plus members would be able to use the service for a limited time at no cost within a limited pickup schedule.

“While free curbside pickup is a new Plus member benefit, we recognize all of our members are looking for contact-free shopping options as part of the current environment,” de la Rosa said. “Because of that, we are going to temporarily make the service available for every member and do what we can to help them get the products they need, when and how they want them.”

The company said it would continue to offer concierge service for seniors and high-risk customers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 a.m.-9 a.m., as well as “Hero Hours” from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sundays, until further notice.
