One of only 24 women in the U.S Senate, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito will be the headline speaker at Drug Store News' third annual Top Women in Health, Wellness & Beauty conference on Oct. 12.
The virtual three-day event once again shines a spotlight on the women who are making a difference in the mass retail industry.
“During the pandemic, I worked closely with West Virginia retail pharmacy operators, including Lynne Fruth [of Fruth Pharmacy], to help deliver testing and vaccinations,” Capito said. “Through these efforts, I learned how valuable their contribution to the healthcare system is — especially during this unprecedented time. I'm looking forward to speaking to the women that help make retail pharmacies so successful.”

Capito is the first female U.S. senator in West Virginia’s history and was elected with the largest margin of victory for a Republican in state history — winning more than 70% of the vote and all 55 counties, surpassing the previous mark she set in 2014 when she won more than 62% of the vote and all 55 counties.
The senator’s speech comes at a time when women are making huge strides in the mass retail industry. But more can be. As a result, many companies are creating programs and systems to help get more female leadership in the C suite.

DSN recognizes this trend, which is why the brand launched the Top Women conference three years ago. In an effort to recognize the efforts of women in the industry who have made and are currently making a difference, DSN also launched the Top Women in Health, Wellness & Beauty Awards, which recognizes women in a variety of categories:
- Career Achievement Award: Recognizes a woman who has demonstrated superior leadership and success over her significant career;

- Commitment to Care Award (bench pharmacists, corporate pharmacists): Recognizes a pharmacist who leads in her community.; and
