Walgreens offering delivery in NYC with Postmates
Walgreens is working with delivery company Postmates to bring on-demand delivery to customers in New York City. Postmates will be delivering hundreds of OTC, health, beauty and grocery products from 174 Walgreens and Duane Reade locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
"We share Postmates' commitment to providing customers with convenient, differentiated shopping experiences, and together we can help ensure our customers are getting what they need, when they need it," said Joe Hartsig, Walgreens’ chief merchandising officer. "Particularly as we head into the peak season for flu, being able to bring our customers convenience items, as well as cough and cold relief directly to their home, can take the stress out of being sick."
Postmates said that working alongside Walgreens will help both companies meet customers’ needs. The delivery company said its customers often seek out items available at Walgreens, with New Yorkers’ top items including Smart Water, Gatorade, San Pellegrino, Tylenol and Pedialyte. Postmates also said that during last year’s flu season (from August 2018 to January), it saw a 173% increase in orders for cough relief products, an 11% increase in sinus relief aids and a 50% increase in soup orders.
"In the last year, orders from convenience and drugstores have increased by 68%. By collaborating with Walgreens, we are able to provide our customers with even more convenience when it comes to everyday items that they need now," said Craig Whitmer, Postmates vice president of merchant business development.
Orders for Walgreens can be placed via the Postmates website or mobile app. The company offers free delivery for customers who subscribe to its membership service, Postmates Unlimited, for $9.99 per month.
