TropicSport celebrates National Sunscreen Day with product swaps
Makers of the reef-friendly, mineral sunscreen and skin care line, TropicSport have announced a special event to commemorate National Sunscreen Day.
The Dallas-based company will be holding national sunscreen swaps that will be held on June 16 in such locations as Huntington Beach and San Diego in C.a., St. Petersburg and Miami in F.L., Dallas and Galveston in T.X., and in Hawaii’s North Shore with an event hosted by professional surfer Jamie O’Brien.
All of the events, which benefit charity, will be held with non-profit organizations in each market that demonstrate the brand’s shared values to protect the health, children, families, communities and the planet.
“This is a groundbreaking year for sunscreen and the perfect time for us to educate as many people as possible about the harmful effects of chemical sunscreen to our environment and our bodies,” Tony Palmer, TropicSport's founder and CEO, said. “Many of the common sunscreens on the market are loaded with toxic chemicals that, according to a recent study, when mixed with chlorine and exposed to ultraviolet light, can potentially result in kidney and liver dysfunction and nervous system disorders.”
At the swaps, the public will be encouraged to trade their chemical sunscreens for a 1.5-oz. bottle of TropicSport for $5, with a portion being donated to charity. This event, of course, comes on the heels of Hawaii’s recent move to ban the use of sunscreens with harmful chemicals, which pose a threat to the ocean’s reefs.
Sunscreens made by TropicSport are made from non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which are key in shielding skin from the sun’s harmful rays, the company said. It also is free of such active chemicals as oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone and octocrylene and meets the U.S. FDA’s 80-minute and Australian 240-minute water resistance tests.
