  • CareMed selected to distribute Tarceva

    LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. — Specialty pharmacy CareMed Pharmaceutical Services has been added to a limited-distribution network for a cancer drug sold by Genentech and Astellas Pharma, the company said.

    CareMed said it had been selected to supply the drug, Tarceva (erlotinib). The two drug makers stopped distributing the drug, a once-daily treatment for advanced lung cancer, through retail pharmacies at the beginning of July.

    DENVER — Silvergate Pharmaceuticals Inc. today announced that the Food and Drug Administration approved Epaned (enalapril maleate powder for oral solution) to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in people one month and older. Enalapril is one of the most commonly prescribed medicines in the United States to treat high blood pressure.

  • Boehringer Ingelheim study to assess safety and effectiveness of oral anticoagulants

    RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Boehringer Ingelheim, a research-based, global pharmaceutical company, today announced a multi-year agreement with Brigham and Women's Hospital on a long-term study program to assess comparative effectiveness and safety, as well as prescribing patterns, of oral anticoagulants, including Pradaxa, for the reduction of stroke risk in U.S. patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

  • Lundbeck's Onfi CIV scored tablets and oral suspension now available in U.S. pharmacies

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Lundbeck announced today that Onfi (clobazam) CIV will be available in scored tablet and oral suspension formulations beginning this week after the formulations were recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Onfi is a prescription medication originally approved by the FDA in 2011, and is used along with other medicines to treat seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in adults and children 2 years of age or older. Onfi is an oral anti-epileptic drug (AED) of the benzodiazepine class, and is a 1,5 benzodiazepine.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer announced today that it is expanding its mPerks digital coupon program to include pharmacy purchases, allowing customers to personalize their savings and earn rewards in the areas they shop the most whenever they fill a prescription.

    The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer launched the mPerks Pharmacy Rewards program this month after reaching 1.5 million mPerks subscribers and saving enrolled customers $21.5 million so far this year.

  • French regulators approve Actavis-Warner Chilcott merger

     PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Actavis and Warner Chilcott have received approval from all necessary antitrust clearances for their merger from regulators outside the United States, the companies said Friday.

    The drug makers said that the French Competition Authority had approved U.S.-based Actavis' acquisition of Ireland-based Warner Chilcott. The German Federal Cartel Office had previously approved the deal as well.
