  • Albertsons, Cardinal execs among those named to ACPE leadership posts

    CHICAGO — Anthony Provenzano, VP of pharmacy compliance and government affairs for Albertsons, and Michael A. Moné, VP associate general counsel-regulatory for Cardinal Health, are among a group of executives elected to Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education leadership posts. Elections were held during the ACPE board of directors meeting, which took place last month.

    WASHINGTON — The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America on Tuesday officially elected new board members and welcomed its latest member company, UBC. 
     
  • New Sam’s Club CEO sets forth 3 goals on day one

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — John Furner, who began his new role as president and CEO of Sam’s Club Wednesday, will focus on three big areas: people, product and digital.

    Regarding people: “We need to engage everyone, at all levels of the company, in the fight we’re in. We need to put our members first and have everyone pulling in the same direction,” Furner stated in a blogged interview currently on Walmart’s website.

  • CRN names new chairman

    WASHINGTON — The Council for Responsible Nutrition on Tuesday announced that Jim Hyde, VP and general manager at Balchem Human Nutrition and Pharma, has been elected chair of the association’s board of directors. He has served on CRN’s Executive Committee for the last five years.

  • Trump meets with pharma execs at White House

    WASHINGTON — Executives from several pharmaceutical companies and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America convened at the White House Tuesday for a meeting with President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore. The president kicked off the meeting by mentioning the price of drugs and the need for competition in the marketplace. 
     
  • Albertsons announces big strides since Safeway merger

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons on Monday — the two-year anniversary of its merger with Safeway — shared some of the progress the company has made since the combination made it the second-largest supermarket company in the United States. The merger created a collective company with 2,230 stores and a team of 250,000 people across 19 banners. 
     
  • Walmart to give new employees pay increases sooner

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The labor market for workers appears to be improving.

    Walmart confirmed to media outlets it will speed up the time it takes for new employees to complete a training program and subsequently increase their pay.

    The retail two years ago implemented a $9 per-hour minimum wage and last year unveiled a six-month training program called Pathways. Once this program was completed, pay was increased to $10 per hour.

  • Walgreens, Rite Aid amend deal to $7 per share, extend end date

    DEERFIELD, Ill.  — Walgreens Boots Alliance and Rite Aid on Monday morning extended their previously announced definitive merger agreement under which Walgreens Boots Alliance will acquire all outstanding shares of Rite Aid.
