  • Wegmans working with local food banks, American Red Cross on food and ice distributions

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets on Monday announced it has worked closely with the Monmouth County Food Bank and the American Red Cross in New Jersey on food and ice distributions since Hurricane Sandy came through the area last week. 

  • P&G to provide showers, personal care kits and portable power to those impacted by Hurricane Sandy

    UNION BEACH, N.J. — In partnership with the American Red Cross, beginning Nov. 6, the P&G Mobile Relief Center will be stationed in Union Beach, N.J., to provide showers, personal care kits, household products — including Bounty, Charmin, Tide and Dawn — and baby products, including Pampers diapers and wipes, to victims of Hurricane Sandy, Procter & Gamble announced Monday. This service will be free to all victims, responders and their families.

  • The New York Times: Hurricane Sandy impact extends to the supply chain, could impede holiday sales

     NEW YORK — The impact of Hurricane Sandy has the potential of extending to holiday sales as a battered supply chain comes back online. The New York Times on Monday featured a story on those recovery efforts, noting that in addition to shutting down shipping terminals Hurricane Sandy impacted warehouses and distribution centers and slowed down delivers across the Northeast as delivery drivers contended with closed roads and gasoline shortages. 

  • Walgreens posts 2.1% drop in October sales, signs more than 28 million to Balance Rewards program

     DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Monday posted October sales of $6 billion, a drop of 2.1% as compared to October 2011. However, in only six weeks on the market, the chain's Balance Rewards loyalty program signed more than 28 million customers through Oct. 31. 

    The results include the brunt of the impact from Hurricane Sandy — at the peak of the storm, approximately 750 of 1,400 stores in the impacted area were closed, Walgreens reported. Nearly all of those locations have since reopened.

  • Wegmans able to get all stores open in wake of Hurricane Sandy

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets on Tuesday reported that they were able to open all 81 of the company’s stores in the six states where they do business, all of which were affected to some degree by Hurricane Sandy. Wegmans’ stores are located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.

    WASHINGTON — More than two-thirds of Americans (71%) reported the economy has not affected their household’s purchasing habits of dietary supplements, according to a survey released Wednesday by the Council for Responsible Nutrition.

  • Prestige maintains momentum

    U.S. prestige beauty posted its highest sales results in 15 years, with all beauty categories surpassing pre-recession levels, according to market research firm NPD Group. According to NPD’s beauty market research, total U.S. prestige beauty generated $9.5 billion in 2011, an increase of 11% in dollars. This compares with $8.6 billion in 2010.
