    DALLAS — Most contact lens wearers in the United States put their eyes at risk by cutting corners and adopting bad habits when it comes to contact lens care and hygiene practices, according to a recent global survey conducted by Wakefield Research for Alcon.

  • Navarro offers information about ACA

    MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacy is reaching out as an information resource about the implementation and rollout of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the 33-store chain said Wednesday.

    Navarro, based in Miami and the largest Hispanic-owned pharmacy chain in the country, said several healthcare companies would be available at its stores to explain insurance options, costs and other important information. The chain also will offer free health screenings like glucose testing, blood-pressure monitoring and others.

  • Nearly everyone has experienced cold, flu or allergy symptoms in past year

    As many as 95% of consumers have suffered from either a cold, flu or allergy ailments or has a family member who has suffered in the past year, according to an online survey of more than 500 AccentHealth viewers conducted in August.   • Study: Seniors gaining weight at greater risk of dying than seniors already overweight

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — Some overweight older adults don’t need to lose weight to extend their lives, but they could risk an earlier death if they pack on more pounds. According to a nationwide Ohio State University study released Thursday, people who were slightly overweight in their 50s but kept their weight relatively stable were the most likely to survive over the next 16 years.

    They had better survival rates than even normal-weight individuals whose weight increased slightly, but stayed within the normal range.
