It’s no secret that with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act set to take full effect in the next couple of years, with an estimated 30 million new patients gaining health insurance, the nation faces a shortage of providers.

One solution is telehealth, in which health professionals consult with patients electronically, even offering diagnoses and writing prescriptions. A related service is telepharmacy, which was the topic of a panel at the NACDS Total Store Expo on Monday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Plaintiffs in CMA et al. v. Douglas et al. have filed a request for a rehearing of the case on the heels of a reversal of the Federal District Court’s decision by a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Maple Grove, Minn.-based chain of 84 stores recently licensed Alchemy, a new drug database and decision support solution, for all of its pharmacy and telepharmacy dispensing systems. The new partnership will enable the chain to streamline its prescription filling process and provide drug information to pharmacists instantly.
