  • Report: Necco off sales block

    BOSTON — The confectioner behind Sweethearts candies is no longer for sale, according to published reports.

    The New England Confectionary Co., also known as Necco, announced that it tapped New York-based investment firm Sawaya Segalas this past November to help the former explore the possible sale. Now, the company has suspended its plans, according the Boston Herald.

    In November 2010, Necco COO Dave Smith said the company was "confident that [it] will be recognized for the value it can bring the right partner."

  • Ganeden, Agostoni extend partnership with probiotic-enhanced chocolate

    CLEVELAND — Ganeden Biotech is continuing its partnership with Agostoni Chocolate to extend their line of probiotic-enhanced, private-label chocolates.

    The new over-the-counter daily supplements include a daily supplement dose of Agostoni's premium dark chocolate combined with the GanedenBC30 probiotic in a small 0.18-oz. mini-disk format.

    The disks will be available in two retail share-pack box sizes: 14-day (28 disk) and 30-day (60 disk) supply.

  • Annika Sorenstam to promote Lipton's RTD teas

    ORLANDO, Fla. — A joint venture between PepsiCo and Unilever has tapped a Hall of Fame golfer to promote ready-to-drink iced teas throughout the state of Florida.

    The Pepsi Lipton Tea partnership said Annika Sorenstam will promote Lipton ready-to-drink iced teas through in-market appearances and regional advertising for its portfolio of RTD iced tea products, which includes Lipton and Lipton Pure Leaf iced teas.

  • Angell touts first-ever Fair Trade-certified bars

    SOLANA BEACH, Calif. — A new line of organic and Fair Trade-certified chocolate bars has hit the market.

    Jungell's Angell bars are chocolate bars that are available in Angell Crisp, Snow Angell, Dark Angell and Classic Angell (coming soon), and range from 170 to 190 calories per bar. Each candy bar contains only organic ingredients and made its debut at the Natural Products Expo West 2011, held in Anaheim, Calif.

    Angell bars are available at natural food stores and on Amazon.com.

  • Stride taps Shaun White as spokesman

    EAST HANOVER, N.J. — The ridiculously long-lasting gum has tapped a snowboarding and skateboarding champion to serve as the brand's spokesman.

    Shaun White, an Olympic gold medalist, inked a two-year deal with Stride to be the gum's official brand spokesman and will be featured in a variety of promotional activities. Stride said it is planning giveaways, digital and social media campaigns, and public relations efforts throughout the coming months.

  • Exclusive California wines now available at Fresh & Easy

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy is expanding its exclusive wine game.

    The retailer, which already offers a robust wine selection at each of its stores, said it is offering seven new, exclusive wine lines: I Heart CA, Wink, PCH, Cloud Valley, WineWrights, Barrel Ranch and Open Field. What's more, Fresh & Easy partnered with Terravant Wine Co. in the Santa Ynez Valley to create three of the new lines of wine: Cloud Valley, Barrel Ranch and Open Field.

    ORRVILLE, Ohio — Smucker's has introduced an on-the-go, heat-and-eat breakfast treat.

    New Smucker's Snack'n Waffles are microwavable waffles that are ready to eat after 15 seconds in the microwave, and already have sweetness baked right in. The waffles are available in blueberry, maple, cinnamon and chocolate chip.
