  • CVS Caremark, The Miracle Project aim to connect with children with autism

    SAN DIEGO — CVS Caremark announced today its partnership with The Miracle Project, a nonprofit organization that creates social skills programs for children with autism through the performing arts, to expand The Miracle Project School Inclusion Program to public schools in San Diego and San Jose, Calif.

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy took center stage on the latest episode of "The Doctors," as one of the chain's pharmacists sat down with one of the show's co-hosts to discuss how patients can manage diabetes on a budget.

    Speaking with emergency room physician Dr. Travis Stork, CVS pharmacist Usheema Thomas told an audience member that recently was diagnosed with diabetes how to manage her condition by using a blood-glucose monitoring system. Thomas also discussed CVS/pharmacy's free ExtraCare for Diabetes program and the benefits of enrolling into the program.

  • DSN, CVS breakfast an opportunity to share focus

    PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Drug Store News Group on Sunday co-hosted a breakfast with CVS Caremark to celebrate DSN’s March 12 “Category of One” issue. Larry Merlo, CVS Caremark president and CEO, shared with attendees CVS’ focus on leveraging personalization opportunities, through both marketing and assortment, to engender loyalty. Suppliers also were introduced to new CVS/pharmacy president Mark Cosby.

  • Study unveils drop in adherence to cardiovascular meds during 'doughnut hole' gap

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Medicare Part D beneficiaries with cardiovascular conditions who had no financial assistance during the "doughnut hole" coverage gap were 57% more likely to discontinue their cardiovascular medications than those beneficiaries who had consistent drug coverage, according to a study conducted by researchers from Harvard University, Brigham and Women's Hospital and CVS Caremark.

  • MinuteClinic providing free diabetes monitoring service this spring

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic has announced that this spring it is offering a free monitoring visit for patients with diabetes to help keep their health in check between visits to a primary care provider.

    The complimentary monitoring service, which is available seven days a week, is administered by a MinuteClinic nurse practitioner or physician assistant and includes:

    • Hemoglobin A1C and blood-glucose test (as needed);

    • Blood pressure check;

    • Body mass index (BMI);

  • CVS Caremark's CIO steps down

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark has confirmed that Stuart McGuigan, SVP and CIO, will be leaving the company April 13.

    CVS Caremark has initiated a search for his replacement, according to a company spokesperson.

    McGuigan has served as SVP and CIO since December 2008. Before that, McGuigan was SVP and CIO of Liberty Mutual Group from September 2004 to December 2008, and was deputy CIO and SVP of Liberty Mutual from February 2004 to September 2004. From 2000 to February 2004, he was SVP information technology at Medco Health Solutions.
