NEW YORK — CVS/pharmacy is encouraging African-Americans to get a seasonal flu shot as African-Americans have lower influenza and pneumococcal immunization rates, compared with the rest of the population.

ST. LOUIS  — Cardinal Health confirmed late Tuesday that it has named John Fiacco VP of its Medicine Shoppe and Medicap Pharmacy franchise division, effective Jan. 1.

Fiacco, a 23-year veteran of CVS/pharmacy, has held various leadership positions within Cardinal and Medicine Shoppe over the past decade, including VP field services for Medicine Shoppe. He will succeed Terry Burnside, who recently retired from his position as general manager of both franchise brands.

The drug store chain said that from Nov. 25 through Nov. 27, customers can enjoy deep discounts on must-have gifts, toys and electronics, as well as additional incentives through its ExtraCare program. CVS/pharmacy shoppers that use their ExtraCare cards can earn 2% back on nearly every purchase and receive instant Extra Bucks every time they shop, simply by purchasing specially advertised items.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Former Kmart CEO Charles Conaway has agreed to drop his appeal of a $10 million fine levied last year by the Securities and Exchange Commission for his role in misleading investors. Conaway, who ran Kmart a decade ago after serving as president of CVS, will pay $5.5 million to settle the charges, according to reports from the Associated Press and other news sources.

INDIANAPOLIS PNC Bank has made its branded automated teller machines available for customer use in 135 CVS/pharmacy locations throughout Indiana.

The PNC-branded ATMs, which are owned and operated by Cardtronics, are accessible to all CVS/pharmacy customers. PNC Bank customers will enjoy surcharge-free withdrawals and the ability to check their balances at 135 stores identified with a PNC logo in the window, PNC said.
