  • Albertsons expands Eating Healthy With Diabetes store tours

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons’ Eating Healthy With Diabetes store tours — which make available to patients a guided tour with a registered dietitian to help make better food choices, set goals and read nutrition labels — are getting an expansion, the company announced Thursday. 
     
    Through April 30, there will be free, guided tours at 400 of the company’s stores with in-store pharmacies under the Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, ACME, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Pavilions, Star Market and Carrs banners.
  • ShopRite offers free February cholesterol and blood glucose screenings

    KEASBEY, N.J. — ShopRite is offering free cholesterol and blood glucose screenings throughout February in honor of American Health Month. Walk-in screenings are available at all of its locations, with no fasting needed.

  • Drug stores to play bigger diabetes role

    CVS Health senior educator Kristene Diggins and others involved in the fight against diabetes said they expect drug stores and retail clinics to play a bigger role in coming years.

    Owen Mumford is releasing an insulin injection guide to better assist healthcare professionals in educating patients on healthy injection routines. Called “Injecting with Insulin: A Guide to Good Injection Technique,” the guide will be offered in both digital and print formats as early as this month.

  • Diabetes diagnoses spiking worldwide

    Diabetes has become a worldwide epidemic. According to data recently published by the Brussels-based International Diabetes Federation, by 2040 more than 642 million people worldwide will suffer from diabetes, up from 415 million in 2015, the last year for which the organization has statistics. In North America, this figure is expected to jump from the current 30 million cases to around 41 million.

  • J&J exploring strategic options for LifeScan unit

    NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.  — Johnson and Johnson on Tuesday announced it will be evaluating "potential strategic options" for its LifeScan diabetes business, as well as other J&J diabetes banners including Animas Corp. and Calibra Medical.

    The news was announced in conjunction with the company's fourth quarter earnings call, and is part of the company's ongoing portfolio management.
