  • Lilly to expand Indianapolis insulin factory

    INDIANAPOLIS – Eli Lilly is spending $140 million to expand its insulin manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, the drug maker said.

    Lilly said it would expand the plant by 80,000 sq. ft., saying it represented one of the most significant investments in its U.S. manufacturing operations in the past decade. Construction is expected to start immediately, with completion planned for March 2014.

  • CVS/pharmacy, American Diabetes Association sponsor diabetes campaign

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy has announced that it is partnering with the American Diabetes Association as the sponsor of "A Day in the Life of Diabetes" campaign — a photo-sharing campaign on the ADA's main Facebook page.

    The CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes program will donate $1 to the American Diabetes Association for every photo or image uploaded, up to $25,000. CVS/pharmacy will also co-host a Twitter chat on Nov. 15 with Dr. Elizabeth Seaquist, VP medicine and science for the ADA.

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — In honor of National Diabetes Month in November, CVS/pharmacy is looking to further meet the healthcare needs of those people living with diabetes by expanding its ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes program with new support and savings.

  • New York pharmacist wins Health Mart diabetes award

    NEW YORK — The owner of an independent pharmacy in New York has won a national award for his diabetes education and counseling efforts.

    Ronald Del Gaudio, a graduate of Long Island University's College of Pharmacy, also known as LIU Pharmacy, and the owner of Kings Pharmacy in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, has won the Health Mart Diabetes Care Excellence Award from the independent pharmacy franchise company, the university said. Kings Pharmacy, a member of Health Mart, includes two pharmacies in Brooklyn and one in Manhattan.

  • Walgreens re-ups alliance with American Diabetes Association through 2013

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Diabetes Association on Wednesday announced that Walgreens has reaffirmed its commitment as a National Strategic Partner and will continue to help the program Stop Diabetes by supporting the association's Type 2 diabetes prevention initiative for consumers called CheckUp America. 

  • Study: Regular blood glucose monitoring increases medication adherence

    MILPITAS, Calif. — Blood glucose monitoring is associated with reduced A1C levels and greater adherence to medication in Type 2 diabetes patients who do not take insulin, according to a study published in the September issue of Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics.

  • Colgate survey shows surprising lack of awareness around diabetes and oral health

    Colgate Total and the American Diabetes Association teamed up to promote awareness for American Diabetes Month with a survey revealing people's knowledge — or lack thereof — about oral health and its association with diabetes.

    The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, found that 36% of respondents didn't know about the link between diabetes and oral health, and 66% of respondents didn't realize that people with diabetes are twice as likely to develop serious gum disease.

  • Nipro Diagnostics garners Consumer Reports recommendation for the second consecutive year

     NEW YORK — Nipro Diagnostics' TRUEresult Blood Glucose Meter for the second consecutive year received a “recommended“ rating from Consumer Reports as part of the publication's review of blood glucose meters in its October issue. 

    The TRUEresult meter received an “excellent” rating for accuracy and “very good“ for repeatability and convenience. Additionally, the TRUE2go meter rated “very good” for accuracy and repeatability, and “good” for convenience.
