  • DNA Diagnostics Center acquires Identigene

    FAIRFIELD, Ohio -- DNA Diagnostics Center on Friday acquired Identigene, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sorenson Genomics.

    Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

    Identigene, based in Salt Lake City, Utah was established in 2007 as the first in-home DNA paternity test collection kit sold through retail outlets nationwide. Today, the Identigene brand is distributed at more than 20,000 retail store locations throughout the United States, including CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid.

  • Nanowear gains FDA approval for first-of-its-kind wearable: undergarment that tracks cardiac health

    NEW YORK -- Nanowear, an early stage developer of cloth-based diagnostic monitoring nanosensor technology, on Thursday announced that it has received FDA Class II 510(k) clearance for its first product, SimplECG, a remote cardiac monitoring undergarment.

    SimplECG collects continuous multi-channel ECG, heart rate and respiratory rate data from the garment and transfers it to a web-based portal for review by a physician, by way of a mobile application. The initial version of the product is iPhone-based.

    NEWARK, N.J. — The new saliva-based Knowhen Advanced Ovulation Test is looking to help patients predict the likelihood of becoming pregnant on a given day. The test is a daily monitoring method that features a reusable mini-ovulation microscope to monitor the gradual increase of estrogen in saliva to identify the five most fertile days in the ovulation cycle. 
     
  • Survey: Moms sweat their child's fever more than any other symptom

    MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - Despite their generational differences, three out of four gen X and millennial moms list fever as their No. 1 concern when caring for their sick children, far above other symptoms of illness, including vomiting, diarrhea, chills, coughing and headache, Braun reported Tuesday. All told, 74% of all moms surveyed said they were either extremely or very concerned about fever in their children.  

  • Publix Pharmacy to offer strep and flu tests

    LAKELAND, Fla. -- Florida Publix pharmacies are offering testing and treatment for strep throat and flu for customers 13 years of age or older.

    Publix Pharmacists can now evaluate patients, perform a diagnostic test, and dispense treatment in one convenient visit to the Publix Pharmacy. For patients who test positive for flu, pharmacists are also able to dispense treatment for other household family members to prevent them from becoming sick from the flu.
