  • Retail community responds with disaster relief supporting Midwest tornado victims

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — In response to recent tornadoes and inclement weather across the Midwest, Dollar General on Monday announced it is donating $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts and also will collect monetary donations at its more than 11,000 retail locations to further provide aid. Separately, wholesaler H.D. Smith also announced it would match donations made in support of disaster relief. H.D. Smith is supporting the Salvation Army. 

  • DG supports St. Jude Children’s Thanks and Giving campaign and Toys for Tots Foundation for the holidays

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General on Friday kicked off its annual holiday giving campaign either in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Thanks and Giving campaign or the holiday toy drive benefitting the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation.

    “Dollar General is honored to support the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation and other local toy drives to make a difference in the communities we serve,” stated Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and CEO. 

  • Dollar General announces changes to board

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General Corporation on Wednesday announced the resignations of Raj Agrawal and Adrian Jones as members of its board of directors, effective Dec. 5, 2013. Agrawal, a member of KKR, and Jones, a managing director at Goldman Sachs, have served as directors of Dollar General since 2007.

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General on Monday announced a number of senior management changes. Todd Vasos has been named COO with responsibility for store operations, merchandising and supply chain. And David D'Arezzo has joined the company as EVP and chief merchandising officer.

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General on Friday announced the introduction of its first fuel station, as part of a test pilot project. The new fuel pumps are located at the Dollar General Market in Hanceville, Ala.

  • Dollar General, Unilever present grants totaling $72,500 to more than two dozen Charlotte-area schools

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General, in partnership with Unilever, concluded the seventh annual "Reading Puts You on the Track to Victory" reading program last week by presenting grants totaling $72,500 to more than two dozen Charlotte-area elementary schools. The grants were presented to school leaders during pre-race ceremonies at the Dollar General 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct. 11.

Dollar General opened store No. 11,000 last week, and Family Dollar continues to reinvent its brand relevance with the consumer as the company posted monster gains for its fiscal fourth quarter and the year, driven by store experimentation, remodels and the introduction 1,000 SKUs, including many health and beauty items.
