  • Impax names new generics division president

    HAYWARD, Calif. — Impax Laboratories on Monday announced the appointment of Douglas S. Boothe to the position of president of its generics division. Boothe will report directly to the specialty pharmaceutical company’s CEO and oversee its entire generics business. 
     
  • Apotex launches generic version of AstraZeneca's Crestor

    WESTON, Fla. -- Apotex  has launched rosuvastatin calcium tablets, the generic equivalent of Crestor by AstraZeneca.

    Apotex's rosuvastatin calcium tablets are now available in 5mg, 10mg, 20mg and 40mg strengths.

    According to IMS Health, Crestor had approximately $6.6 billion in sales in the 12 months ending in January 2016.
     

  • Teva launches generic version of Imitrex injection

    NEW YORK -- Teva Pharmaceuticals has added Sumatriptan Injection, USP (autoinjector) to its line of generic products.

    The product is AB rated and bioequivalent to Imitrex (sumatriptan succinate) Injection, and is available in strengths of 4 mg/0.5 mL and 6 mg/0.5 mL.

    Both strengths are offered in cartons containing two autoinjectors, each with a prefilled 0.5 mL single-dose syringe.

     

  • JAMA: Less than 3 generic rivals could lead to rising drug prices

    CHICAGO - According to a recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, an analysis of FDA new drug and generic drug applications since the Hatch-Waxman Act took effect revealed that more than one-third of 210 novel therapeutics tracked had only three or fewer generic approvals.

    The finding points to a potential gap in competition that has allowed prices for some generics to climb.

  • Ajanta launches generic Axert

    BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Ajanta Pharma USA on Tuesday announced the launch of its generic Axert (almotriptan malate) tablets. The drug is indicated for acute treatment of migraine headaches in patients with a history of migraine with or without aura. 
     
    Ajanta’s almotriptan malate tablets will be available in 6.25- and 12.5-mg dosage strength. 
     
     
     
  • FDA approves Aurobindo’s Vicoprofen generic

    Dayton, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved Aurobindo Pharma’s generic of Vicoprofen (hydrocodone bitartrate and ibuprofen) tablets, the company announced Tuesday. The drug is indicated for short-term management of acute pain. 
     
    Aurobindo’s generic will be available in 7.5 mg hydrocodone/200 mg ibuprofen tablets. The product had U.S. sales of about $15.7 million for the 12 months ended May 2016, according to IMS Health.
