  • Energizer Personal Care introduces Fresh + Sexy wipes

    SHELTON, Conn. — Energizer Personal Care has introduced a line of wipes designed for use after sex.

    Energizer announced Tuesday the introduction of Fresh + Sexy wipes by Playtex, described as a before-and-after intimate wipe to help couples feel clean after sexual activity.

  • JAMA report criticizing calcium supplementation in men raises eyebrows among supplement associations

    CHICAGO — A JAMA report released Monday afternoon that suggested a high intake of supplemental calcium is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease death in men was criticized by several dietary supplement agencies for being inconclusive. According to the Council for Responsible Nutrition's most recent survey of U.S. adults, 17% indicated they take a calcium supplement.

  • Merz North America names VP Merz Aesthetics unit, moves OTC under Aesthetics umbrella

    GREENSBORO, N.C. — Merz North America on Monday named Jim Hartman VP of the Merz Aesthetics business unit, which includes Xeomin, Radiesse and Belotero Balance. 

    Hartman was hired in June 2012 to lead the U.S. Dermatology Business Unit, which includes Naftin, Mederma and the recently launched Onmel. Prior to joining Merz, Hartman was VP global marketing and business development at Obagi Medical Products, a provider of topical skin care treatments.

  • Nebraska medication-management research study gets NACDS Foundation grant

    ARLINGTON, Va. — A university research project to look at the potential effects on patient health of incorporating medication management strategies into existing care teams has won a grant from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores' philanthropic arm.

    The NACDS Foundation said it gave the University of Nebraska Medical Center one of three research grants for the project, which will look at the effects of the strategies when they're incorporated into teams such as medical homes and accountable care organizations.

  • Survey: 1-in-5 Americans got their flu shots at a retail pharmacy

    WASHINGTON — Most Americans who reported getting a flu shot in the past season received that vaccination in their physician's office. However, about 20% received their flu shot at a retail pharmacy and 12.6% at a walk-in clinic, according to an Ipsos Public Affairs poll released Friday. That suggests that as many as 18.5 million flu shots were administered to adults at retail pharmacy and another 11.7 million to adults at walk-in clinics. 

  • Flu continues to rage across West, Southwest United States

    ATLANTA — The flu epidemic is in full swing in the West and across the Southwest, as just about every state west of the Mississippi through to California is in the red on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention weekly FluView for the week ended Jan. 26. 

    As expected, many of those living in areas with high influenza-like illness activity were visiting their local drug stores for symptomatic relief. Drug store front-end sales were up 7.4% for the four weeks ended Jan. 26, according to reports citing Nielsen data.
