Customers in Michigan who use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP,  benefits can now use the payment method for Meijer’s home delivery and pickup shopping services.

Meijer announced that it is now accepting the payment capability for its pickup and home delivery orders via an electronic benefits transfer, or EBT, card. The payment capability will be available for those in Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin and Kentucky in the coming weeks, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer said.

“We’re excited to accept SNAP benefits across our Meijer Pickup and Delivery shopping experiences,” said Derek Steele, vice president of customer strategy for Meijer. “We believe all customers should have access to personalized, convenient, digital shopping services and understand the added benefit this new payment capability provides.”

Currently, Meijer’s pickup service, which is free on orders of $35 or more, does not require a membership and offers the same pricing available in stores, as well as access to weekly sales and discounts.

Items available for pickup include grocery, general merchandise, toys, electronics, beauty care and houseware items. In addition, customers who use the service can also activate Meijer’s "on my way experience" via the app to announce their arrival and check-in using the "I’m here" experience to share their parking spot number.

On the other hand, the retailer’s home delivery lets customers shop when they want from wherever they want and have their order delivered at a time that is most convenient for them. Customers can have fresh produce and grocery items, as well as everyday essentials hand-selected by a personal shopper to be delivered to their home within a few hours.

“Providing SNAP recipients with access to Meijer Pickup and Delivery will make shopping for affordable, fresh groceries and essentials a little easier for parents and families across the Midwest,” Steele said. “We hope the new capability brings convenience and access to all our customers when ordering groceries online.”

Meijer’s pickup service is available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and home delivery is also available daily from 7 a.m. to midnight.
