  • Ahoy! OPI develops 'Pirates of the Caribbean' nail polish collection

    NEW YORK — New swashbuckling colors are on the horizon as OPI gears up to launch a new, limited-edition nail lacquer collection based on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film franchise.

    In line with the premiere of the franchise's latest film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," OPI has developed six new nail lacquers, including a new Shatter polish, which leaves behind a crackled, two-texture silver finish when painted over any dry OPI hue.

    The limited edition line includes:

  • Fisk acquires Barielle brand

    NEW YORK — Fisk Industries, a manufacturer of niche-oriented cosmetics and health- and beauty-aid products, has acquired the Barielle line of nail, skin and foot care products.

    Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • Adding strips of color

    NEW YORK — Coty’s Sally Hansen brand is looking to take the nail category to a new level with its Salon Effects real nail polish strips.


    The strips offer DBP, toluene and formaldehyde-free nail looks that have no dry time and promise to last up to 10 days. Users simply peel, apply, file and go. The strips can be removed with nail polish remover. Each kit, priced at $9.99, includes 16 nail polish strips, a cuticle stick, mini file/buffer and instructions.


    The collection includes Simply neons, High-Shine metallics and High-Fashion patterns.

  • Coty 'nails' new product innovations for New Year

    NEW YORK — Coty's Sally Hansen brand is gearing up for 2011 with an assortment of new nail products, including new, innovative nail polish strips for no-dry nail styles that last up to 10 days.

  • Coty brushes up nail care portfolio with OPI acquisition

    NEW YORK — It's official. Coty, whose brands include Sally Hansen nail care products, has announced plans to acquire OPI Products, a maker of professional nail salon products.

    Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition will bolster Coty's color cosmetic portfolio by adding more than 200 shades of OPI Nail Lacquer's chip-resistant formula.

  • American Apparel expands nail polish line

    LOS ANGELES — Clothing manufacturer American Apparel has announced the addition of 12 new colors to its line of nail polish.

     

    The company's Made in the USA nail lacquer is now available in 48 colors.

    It’s no secret that the economic crunch helped to spur the sales of nail products in 2009—especially nail color—and that trend is expected to continue as women still are likely to forgo the pricey salon and embrace the do-it-yourself trend.
