    PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Three-in-four pharmaceutical companies are looking to derive greater value from the influx of healthcare information that includes anonymized electronic medical records and other real-world data, according to a report issued by the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics on Wednesday. New investments in a range of commercial operations applications — such as customer relationship management, social media or integrated multi-channel marketing solutions — were cited by more than 70% of respondents as a priority.

    SAN FRANCISCO — Jawbone, a developer of wearable technology and audio devices, on Tuesday announced that its lifestyle tracker, UP24 and the accompanying UP app, are now available for Android users. UP24 is a wristband, app and data system that helps consumers understand their sleeping, movement and eating activity so that they can make choices to live better.

  • Zipnosis partners with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. and MINNEAPOLIS — Zipnosis, a virtual care service that provides online diagnosis and treatment for common medical conditions, has partnered with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System to begin offering online diagnosis and treatment.

    The academic medical center will begin using Zipnosis’ virtual care service this summer. The partnership with UAB marks Zipnosis’ first major step toward national expansion.

KLAS, an independent healthcare research organization, reserves the Category Leader designation for vendors that lead select market segments with software solutions designed to help healthcare professionals provide better care for their patients.

  • UCLA researchers employ Google Glass app as disease diagnostics tool

    LOS ANGELES — A team of researchers from UCLA's Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science has developed a Google Glass application and a server platform that allow users of the wearable, glasses-like computer to perform instant, wireless diagnostic testing for a variety of diseases and health conditions.

    MADISON, Wis. — Oscar Mayer is giving bacon lovers a reason to wake up early. The brand has unveiled the first-ever iOS device that wakes people up with the smell of bacon. The device, called Wake Up & Smell the Bacon, syncs with the Oscar Mayer Wake Up & Smell the Bacon iPhone app to emit the scent and sound of sizzling bacon when the rooster crows.
