  • Pfizer completes FoldRx acquisition

    NEW YORK Pfizer on Wednesday announced the completion of its acquisition of a privately held drug discovery and clinical development company.

    FoldRx now is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pfizer, Pfizer said. FoldRx's portfolio includes clinical and preclinical programs for investigational compounds to treat diseases caused by protein misfolding, which increasingly is recognized as an underlying cause in many chronic degenerative diseases.

    The acquisition was announced Sept. 1.

  • New PowerBar High Intensity rolls into retail

    FLORHAM PARK, N.J. Nestle Performance Nutrition on Tuesday announced its entry into the sport dietary supplement category with the launch of a line of dietary supplements under the brand PowerBar Elite Series High Intensity. Formulated with sustained-release beta alanine for endurance, the line will carry the NSF Certified for Sport certification for sports nutrition products.

  • Jordin Sparks to launch fragrance

    GLENWILLOW, Ohio Recording artist and Broadway star Jordin Sparks is launching in October her first fragrance line, which exclusively will be available at apparel retailer Dots through Nov. 5.

    Apra International, which introduces up-and-coming celebrity fragrances, manufactured the fragrance called "Because of You." The fragrance is priced at $14.95 for 2.5 oz. of eau de parfum. Dots, which has more than 400 stores, will offer the fragrance at an introductory price of $9.50 through the month of October.

  • Decision Resources projects modest growth for UC drug market

    BURLINGTON, Mass. The drug market for ulcerative colitis treatments will see modest growth through 2019, according to a new report by Decision Resources.

    The research and advisory firm said that the UC drug market will see growth of $800 million, driven by the uptake of Abbott and Eisai's Humira, Centocor Ortho Biotech/Merck/Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma/Janssen's Simponi and Millennium's vedolizumab in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and Japan.
