TCGRx is unveiling LocalRx, a new product line that  expedites the will call process for prescription medications and includes a telepharmacy consultation option for patients via webcam and telephone.

The Irvine, Calif.-based company’s VRxAssist offers a virtual staff solution that it said can help support pharmacies who want to offer more services, optimize their performance on quality measures and improve their workflow.

Phil LaFoy, pharmacist and co-owner of Blount Discount Pharmacies, which has locations in Alcoa and Maryville, Tenn., said that digital tools — a website that allows for prescription refills and a mobile app with similar capabilities — are one of the main ways independent retail pharmacies can stay competitive.

As it surpasses this milestone, Pharmacy Quality Solutions said its EQuIPP platform would soon feature more performance measures, including expanded measure sets aimed at adherence for such categories as asthma inhalers, antidepressants and antipsychotics.

From patient engagement to inventory management and will-call, opportunities abound for pharmacies to get a technological assist.

The Senate Finance Committee has passed the Every Prescription Conveyed Securely Act, little more than a month after the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed its House counterpart.

The companies are rolling out MedAvail’s MedCenter self-service pharmacy kiosks in Phoenix and Tucson, offering securely dispensed chronic and acute prescriptions, as well as OTC medications 24/7.

The Plymouth, Minn.-based chain will use PrescribeWellness’ platform to offer clinical services, enhance patients’ experiences and offer comprehensive patient engagement and support services — all with the goal of improved outcomes, the companies said.
