JUNEAU, Alaska - Alaska recently became the 11th state to help prevent the growing abuse threat posed by products containing dextromethorphan by restricting the sale of products containing DXM to Alaskans over the age of 18, or under 18 with a licensed practitioner’s prescription.

NCPA drafts letter to CMS in support of proposed DIR guidance

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The National Community Pharmacists Association and 21 other related stakeholder organizations earlier this week delivered a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in support of proposed guidance that would provide greater transparency into direct and indirect remuneration (or DIR) fees and to provide additional suggestions on how these fees should be reported as the agency prepares to close the fiscal books on the 2015 plan year.

LOS ANGELES, - The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has issued a "Warning Letter" that orders a manufacturer of fluoride drops and tablets to "immediately" discontinue marketing these products because FDA has never approved them as safe and effective.

On Wednesday, the Fluoride Action Network joined with The International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology to petition the FDA to take similar action against all other companies producing unapproved fluoride "supplements."
NPA challenges Puerto Rico VMS fees

WASHINGTON – The Natural Products Association on Wednesday announced a meeting with members of the House of Representatives to overturn an administrative order issued by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico’s Department of Health that would raise prices for dietary supplement and natural products consumers and adds requirements for retailers/distributors inconsistent with federal law.

NPA is seeking to attach the provision to the debt relief package for Puerto Rico, which Congress is considering.
