  • Retail pharmacy again steps to the plate as the South recovers from the latest hurricane

    NEW YORK — Recent hurricane relief efforts have expanded to incorporate the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in Florida and neighboring southern states as retail pharmacy operators continue to provide support to the associates and customers impacted by floods and power outages.

    In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Walgreens on Wednesday committed to a $200,000 donation to American Red Cross Hurricane Irma relief efforts and also is donating supplies of water and food to relief efforts in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

  • CVS Pharmacy to acquire 6 Ohio ProMedica pharmacy locations

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Pharmacy will be acquiring six Ohio outpatient pharmacy locations from ProMedica, with plans to close five of them. CVS Pharmacy will take over operations at ProMedica Pharmacy Counter in Oregon, Ohio, converting it to a CVS Pharmacy in November. The other five locations, all in the Toledo area, will be closed, with their files set to be transferred to nearby CVS Pharmacy locations starting in mid-October.

  • Dollar General tackles Big 12 sponsorship

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General on Wednesday partnered with the Big 12 Conference and ESPN Events to serve as the Official Discount Retail Sponsor for the Big 12 Conference for the 2017-2018 academic year. Additionally, the major discount retailer will serve as the Conference’s Official Homegating and Tailgating Headquarters and exclusive sponsor of the Dollar General Big 12 Championship Tour, which plans to host events at each of the 10 Big 12 Conference collegiate campuses during the 2017 fall football season.

  • Kroger, Lidl drop own brand trademark infringement suit

    RICHMOND, Va.— The U.S. District Court here on Tuesday officially dismissed the Kroger lawsuit against Lidl, which alleged Lidl infringed on Kroger's private label trademark. Both parties filed a stipulation of dismissal on Sept. 7, the court reported.

    According to that stipulation, the parties agreed to dismiss the suit with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled anytime in the future, with each side bearing their own attorney fees and court costs.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Among the products Walmart is bringing into stores to up its beauty game is one bringing consumers a new way to remove nail polish. Nail-Aid on Wednesday announced that its Spray Away aerosol nail polish remover was getting an exclusive Walmart launch at all of the retailer’s more than 4,500 stores.
