  • Sam's Club to host free allergy and health screenings

    BENTONVILLE, ARK. — On March 8, Sam's Club will host free allergy and health screenings to members and visitors at Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy — 584 locations — to ease management of allergies this season, the club operator announced Wednesday.

    WABAN, Mass. — Based on a study of 10,000 U.S consumers, H-E-B, Trader Joe's, Chick-fil-A and Publix earned the highest scores in the 2014 Temkin Experience Ratings, ranking 268 companies across 19 industries. Joining those firms in the top 14 spots are Aldi, Food Lion, Sonic Drive-In, credit unions, Dairy Queen, Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, Regions, Sam's Club and Starbucks.

  • Sam's Club names new VP health care

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club has named David Badeen VP health care. Badeen will be responsible for pharmacy, OTC, optical and hearing centers, as well as third party contracting and pricing. In this new role, he will report directly to Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP health and wellness.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Bad weather and a reduction in food stamps led to weaker-than-expected sales at Walmart and Sam’s Club, which — combined with greater than expected international expense — prompted an uncharacteristic preannouncement from the company that fourth quarter profits would be worse than expected.

    NEW YORK — Former Barnes & Noble executive Jamie Iannone has been appointed president and CEO of Samsclub.com in a restructuring that integrates Sam’s Club’s online business into the Walmart’s Global eCommerce business unit based in California. Previously, most of the warehouse club’s online business was run separately out of the retailer’s headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.

  • First screenings of the year at Sam's Club to take place Saturday

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Sam's Club is offering free health screenings for the New Year on Saturday, the club retailer said.

    The screenings are available at the 581 Sam's Club locations that operate a pharmacy and will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The screenings are the first of a series of monthly screenings that will take place on the second Saturday of each month through October.

    Screenings include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index and vision.

  • Walgreens gets top score among drug chains in Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — A national gay-rights organization has given Walgreens top marks for its practices related to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

    In its 2014 Corporate Equality Index, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation gave the Deerfield, Ill.-based retail pharmacy chain a "perfect" score of 100. 2014 is the ninth year that Walgreens has won a perfect score.
