  • FTC sets closed-door meeting ahead of next week’s Walgreens-Rite Aid merger deadline

    WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission’s is set to hold a closed-door meeting on Thursday. The meeting comes in the lead-up to the Jul. 7 deadline by which the regulatory agency has to approve or file suit to block the Walgreens-Rite Aid merger.

The chain on Tuesday shared data showing that more than 20% of its user base are ages 55 years and older — a demographic that only makes up 9% of overall smartphone ownership.

  • Walgreens brings prescription-free naloxone to Michigan

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Michigan residents can now get naloxone without a prescription at more than 225 Walgreens locations in the state. With the Tuesday announcement, Walgreens has now made the opioid overdose reversal drug, which can be administered as an injection or a nasal spray, available in 45 states and the District of Columbia.

  • New Little Clinic partnership to bring patients non-opioid pain solutions

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kroger’s The Little Clinic on Tuesday announced a partnership that will bring options to certain patients who want live pain-free without prescription opioid medications. The collaboration with Results Physiotherapy will see clinics in Tennessee, Kentucky and Southern Indiana offering patients free consulations and recommendations, which may include physical therapy.

  • Target launches next-day delivery in Twin Cities

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target has entered the fast-growing next-day grocery delivery market. 
     
    The discounter on Tuesday launched a pilot for Target Restock, a next-day delivery service for household essentials and dry grocery items ordered online, in its hometown market of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The service, available only to Target REDcard holders, comes with a flat fee of $4.99 per box. 
     
  • Albertsons strengthens marketing and merchandising team

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons on Friday announced two key executive appointments to its marketing and merchandising team. Dennis Clark has been promoted to SVP merchandising, and Pat Brown, most recently CEO of Natural Markets Food Group, has been named group VP merchandising, leading Deli & Prepared Foods and Business Initiatives.

  • Walmart partners with Quest Diagnostics to bring lab testing to 15 stores

    MADISON, N.J., and BENTONVILLE, Ark. — By the end of the year, roughly 15 Walmart locations will feature co-branded Quest Diagnostics sites, the companies announced Monday. The sites are set to launch at select stores in Florida and Texas, initially offering lab testing services with the expectation that they will expand to include other basic healthcare services.

  • Fred’s, Nielsen expand longtime analytics partnership

    NEW YORK and MEMPHIS — Fred’s Pharmacy and Nielsen on Monday announced that they would be expanding their longtime relationship. The new agreement makes Nielsen the exclusive provider of account-level data for Fred’s, covering metrics for all of its 601 stores.
