  • CVS Caremark study validates effectiveness of optimal Rx adherence

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — New research conducted by CVS Caremark and Brigham and Women's Hospital confirms that optimal adherence to medications prescribed after a heart attack reduces hospital readmissions.

    The research was published in the January 2014 issue of the American Heart Journal.

  • In wake of card data breach, Target offers free credit monitoring to customers

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target is offering free credit monitoring for a year for customers who shop at its stores, the mass merchandise retailer said Monday.

    Target said it had contracted with ProtectMyID, a division of Experian, which will offer daily credit monitoring, identity theft insurance and access to assistance from fraud resolution agents, as well as a complimentary credit report. Customers have until April 23 to request an activation code, and then until April 30 to register for credit monitoring through ProtectMyID.

  • MediSafe updates medication reminder app to allow automatic refills

    HAIFA, Israel — Users of a medication-management app can now refill their prescriptions using an enhancement to it.

    MediSafe announced Monday an updated version of its Medication Refill Reminder app allowing users to enter contact information for their preferred pharmacies and, once alerted that a medication refill is needed, to click on the pharmacy logo that directs them to the mobile refill page of the specified pharmacy. The app currently supports refills for Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid and Health Mart.

  • Rite Aid donates 15,000 cases of water following W.Va., chemical spill

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid's philanthropic arm will donate water for areas of West Virginia affected by a recent chemical spill, the retail pharmacy chain said Saturday.

    The Rite Aid Foundation announced the donation of 15,000 cases of water to the American Red Cross West Virginia Region to assist communities around Charleston, W.Va., currently under a water ban resulting from a chemical spill that contaminated the area's water supply, affecting about 300,000 people in a nine-county area.

    NEW YORK — Finnish beauty brand Lumene is kicking off 2014 with a bang, the company said, as it revamps packaging, broadens its portfolio with new formulas and prepares to expand into Rite Aid stores.

    To highlight the skin care benefits of vitamin C, Lumene’s Vitamin C+ is now known as Bright Now Vitamin C+. The range, which is targeted to women ages 25 years and older, leverages the power of arctic cloudberry nectar and seed oil and vitamin C to brighten and protect the skin while preventing the first signs of aging.

  • Walgreens declares regular quarterly dividend of 31.5 cents per share, a 14.5% increase

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — The board of directors of Walgreens on Thursday declared a regular quarterly dividend of 31.5 cents per share, a 14.5% increase over the year-ago dividend. 

    The dividend is payable March 12, 2014, to shareholders of record on Feb. 18, 2014.

    Walgreens has paid a dividend in 325 straight quarters (more than 81 years) and has raised its dividend for 38 consecutive years. Over the last five years, Walgreens annual dividend rate has increased from 45 cents per share to $1.26 per share, resulting in a compound annual growth rate of nearly 23%.
