    CINCINNATI — DunnhumbyUSA, a customer science company that works to build brand value for consumer goods and retail companies, has announced the promotion of six executives.

  • Giant-Landover signs statement of support for National Guard, reserve

    WASHINGTON — The head of Ahold USA's Giant-Landover banner has pledged the supermarket chain's support for the Department of Defense's Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

    Giant-Landover, officially Giant Food of Landover, Md., said president Anthony Hucker signed a statement of support for National Guard and reserve employees at the Brentwood Giant Food in Washington, accompanied by ESGR District of Columbia chairman George Alexander. Established in 1972, the ESGR develops and maintains employer support for the Guard and Reserve service.

  • Ahold completes sale of ICA stake

    AMSTERDAM — Dutch supermarket operator Royal Ahold has completed the sale of its majority stake in a Scandinavian supermarket chain, the company said Wednesday.

    Ahold announced that it had completed the sale of its 60% stake in ICA to Swedish firm Hakon Invest for $3.3 billion. The deal was announced Feb. 11.

    Based in Sweden, ICA operates the ICA and Rimi chains in Scandinavia and the Baltics.

     

  • Alliance Boots to refocus contract manufacturing business on beauty, skin care product development

    LONDON — Alliance Boots on Wednesday announced its contract manufacturing business BCM will invest heavier into core competency categories, such as beauty and skin care, as it discontinues third-party manufacturer development in unnamed "unprofitable" categories. 

  • Herdez expands cooking sauces line, eyes wider distribution

    LOS ANGELES — Herdez, a brand of MegaMex Foods, announced today four new Mexican Cooking Sauces currently lining shelves at Los Angeles-area Albertsons stores, as well as plans to increase distribution to Walmart stores nationwide by June.

    The four new sauces include:

    • Traditional Chipotle — Chipotle simply means "smoked chili pepper." Brown and shriveled chipotles are combined with the tomato, onion and vinegar.

  • Revamped Supervalu to cut 1,100 positions at district level and above

    MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Tuesday announced plans to reduce its national workforce by an estimated 1,100 positions. The reductions include both current positions and open jobs that will not be filled.

  • Meijer launches Simply Give donation campaign

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer will fund local food pantries by doubling every customer's $10 donation next month, the mass-merchandise retailer said.

    As part of the spring "Simply Give" campaign, the company will double donations made April 12-13 to restock shelves of pantries that were depleted during the holidays. Meijer said customers have donated nearly $5 million — equal to 30 million meals — since November 2008.
