  • Swisse Wellness launches supplement line at Walgreens

    NEW YORK — A line of OTC products from Australia will hit the shelves of Walgreens Friday.

    Swisse Wellness announced plans to roll out its line of multivitamins and other products in October 2012, hiring actress Nicole Kidman as the spokeswoman for the brand.

    An announcement on the company's website noted that the release would coincide with Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday as it touted its Ultivite multivitamins, Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox and Swisse Ultivite + Energy.

    LEBANON, Pa.  — Ever since H1N1, prevention has been a strong theme resonating through each cough-cold season. And now that there's a strong flu season driving traffic, retailers like CVS/pharmacy here are strategically placing end-caps, such as this Lysol display, leading into the cough-cold sets. Tissues and even hand sanitizers had always been good ancillary categories that enjoyed a lift during cold and flu season. Now disinfectant cleaners are a good category to benefit from those sniffles and sneezes too.

  • Rite Aid promotes heart health for American Heart Month

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is promoting heart health to mark American Heart Month in February.

    The retail pharmacy chain announced Wednesday that it would distribute 12-page Heart Health guides and offer counseling with pharmacists and collect money for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement by selling red dress paper pinups.

  • Costco offers Aetna insurance to California members

    WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Aetna is offering individual health insurance plans to Costco members in California, the health insurer said.

    The Costco Personal Health Insurance program includes five plans and offers broad medical benefits, dental options and a large network of doctors and hospitals. The program also is available to members of the club retailer in Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. Aetna plans to expand the program to other markets in the coming months.

  • Safeway, ExxonMobil partner on new loyalty card offer

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway and ExxonMobil on Wednesday announced a new loyalty program that will award customers in the Mid-Atlantic region Reward Points, redeemable at any ExxonMobil station, for products purchased at Safeway.  

    According to a recent Safeway survey, one-third of families go out of their way to look for deals because saving money is important to them. Nearly three out of four people will drive out of their way to purchase more affordable gas, and 76% of consumers said they would change where they grocery shop and purchase gas to save money. 

  • Take Care Health collaborates with Indiana health system on better patient care

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens' subsidiary Take Care Health Systems on Wednesday announced a clinical collaboration with Indianapolis-based Community Health Network that will facilitate more coordinated healthcare services and improve patient access to high-quality, convenient and affordable care throughout central Indiana.

  • Ahold USA names Mark McGowan to EVP merchandising

    NEW YORK — Ahold USA last week announced that Mark McGowan has been appointed as EVP merchandising. He will lead a merchandising team that supports Ahold USA and its four divisions: Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro, Giant Landover and Giant Carlisle.

    Mr. McGowan had previously served as EVP supply chain for Ahold USA and previously led the Boston division of Stop & Shop.
